The image I have chosen to use is a print by Francisco Goya called People in Sacks. Goya is considered one of the old masters. He is from Spain and spent most of his life living there and painting/print making for various royal courts. The style and themes of his work changed throughout the course of his very long career. While his earlier work is more light hearted and cheery, or portraits of royalty, after a sickness in 1792 that left him deaf his work became considerably darker and introspective.  His works grew darker as time went on. He explored themes such as insanity, war, fantasy, and also continued to do portraits.

The series this print was made for is titled Los Proverbios, which was his final series and one that has always been shrouded in mystery. It is said that it is an incomplete series because Goya didn’t bother to number them. The tone and general feel to the series is very dark and the meaning behind the prints is left very open to interpretation from the viewer.

To me, the image looks like some sort of chain gang or group of prisoners. Perhaps their punishment is to wear theses sacks? Or they are all insane and inside the sacks for reasons of safety. For whatever reason I can’t get the image of prisoners in a chain gang being led somewhere out of my head. The figure at the far right fascinates me as well. It seems to be walking away from the others. Where is it going, and why is it trying to get away?  Can it get away?

In my video I want to explore this character on the far right. I want to show this character’s story, how it got in the situation it is in, and how it plans to get away.

I enjoy the style of this video. Every camera angle is planned out very well and is interesting to look at. The color correction makes the video have a grainy, modern look. The Star War visuals are well placed, you know they are fake but it goes well with the video so who cares?

Simple design, modern and smart. Clutter free by necessity. I like furniture with this modern, minimalist look. How practical it would be to own is another matter entirely, but in an ideal world I’d be able to use this and not clutter it up with junk.

This is my first post, how exhilarating.

She's not doing yoga

Felt like this looked like a huge fruit roll-up. She is so happy she is caressing it. I wish I was so passionate about processed fruity snacks.
